Are you feeling anxious before your wedding dress appointment after past shopping experiences? No need to worry- wedding dress styles are as diverse as they are designed to be flattering. 

There’s a style for every body type, and don’t forget that you can alter your dress until it’s absolutely perfect. We’ve compiled a list of dress silhouettes that pair well with different body types to give you a starting point for inspiration.

And remember, this is just for ideas! Stay open-minded to what your bridal consultant suggests. It’s not uncommon for brides to go into their appointment thinking a particular style won’t suit them, but then they end up falling in love with it once they see it on!

1. Pear Shape: High Neckline/ Wide Neckline

The pear body type consists of a smaller chest and shoulders with wider hips and thighs. The high and wide necklines bring attention to shoulders by accentuating the neckline. An illusion neckline with sheer fabric is an example of how to do this, or even by going with a sexy off-the-shoulder style. Halter tops also look dainty while showing off the shoulders.

2. Hourglass Shape: Mermaid Gown

A curve-hugging mermaid gown looks flattering on an hourglass body type as it follows the natural contour of the waist, hips, chest, and thighs. A mermaid gown can even help create the illusion of a smaller waist. Don’t hide those curves under volume- show them off! 

3. Petite Shape: A-Line/ V-Neck

If you’re 5’4” and under, an A-line silhouette helps to cinch the waist, then tapers out at the skirt to give the bust and waist added definition. A V-neck creates the illusion of a longer torso, adding height. 

4. Tall Shape: Ballgown

A ballgown can overwhelm other body types but looks flattering on tall women. It’s dramatic, sweeping, and carries well on a longer frame. Wear high-heels to make a statement and give a glimpse of your legs and ankles.
