One Love's Guide to Wedding Dress Embellishments

One Love's Guide to Wedding Dress Embellishments

Dreaming of lush embellishments that make your sample wedding dress sparkle and shine?

While embellishments are undoubtedly pretty, they can also be used in a functional way, such as covering up exposed skin while retaining an aura of sexiness.

If you’re curious about the different types of embellishments available for your wedding dress, we’ve got a handy guide to give you inspiration.

Note: One Love does not facilitate wedding dress alterations, including adding embellishments. We can recommend a local seamstress for any alterations to your sample wedding dress.

Lace Applique

Lace has been on-trend for the past few years, creating a romantic BOHO look with unique, timeless patterns.

Lace appliques consist of fabric pieces that are cut into various shapes, such as flowers. A seamstress sews the applique to the sample wedding gown.

This type of embellishment adds dimension when attached to an open back or plunging neckline. You can have it sewn onto sheer fabric somewhere on the gown or come up with a customized design with your seamstress.

Sequins

If you’re going for a Gatsby-themed dress or an old Hollywood feel, then sequins might be the embellishment you need to turn on the glitz and glamour.

One of the best things about sequins is that these tiny disks are iridescent so they don’t overwhelm a wedding dress with sparkle. It’s the perfect amount of shimmer to make your look unforgettable.

Beadwork

Beading is one of the more popular embellishment methods, with a wide variety of trinkets and treasures to add that come in all sorts of sizes.

Beading is versatile, so you can keep it as subtle or striking as you desire. Common areas to add beading include the bodice or neckline. Some brides go all out and cover the gown in beading from head to toe.

Beading materials include pearls, crystals, and glass beads.

Other Embellishments We Love….

Here is a full list of other types of embellishments to consider!

  • Fringe: Add fringe to the sleeves or train for a BOHO chic dress.
  • Ribbon: Tie ribbon into a big bow to make the back of your dress pop.
  • Border Trim: If you feel like your dress is “unfinished” a border might be what you need. Add ruffles, scallops, or braids.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
